Software · Windows & Mac

Desktop software, built for Windows and Mac.

Some work belongs on the computer, not in a browser: fast screens, printers and scanners, big files, no internet needed. We build native-feeling Windows and Mac software from one plan, sign it so customers trust it, and set it up to update itself. Below is what we build, what is inside it, and every technology we use, in plain words.

What's inside desktop software

Four layers. Every app has them.

A desktop app looks like one thing, but four layers do the work. Knowing them makes every quote, every choice and every conversation with us easier.

A small utility needs little more than a window and an engine. A business app needs all four to be strong. We size each layer to your goal, so you never pay for what you do not need.

  1. 01

    The window

    Interface

Everything people see and touch: windows, menus, tables, shortcuts and dark mode. It should feel at home on Windows and on Mac.

    What this layer does

    • Feels native on each system
    • Works well with keyboard and mouse
    • Stays responsive during heavy work

    We use

    • React
    • TypeScript
    • Tailwind CSS
    • SwiftUI
    • WPF
  2. 02

    The engine

    Core logic

The rules and calculations that make the software useful, running right on the computer, so they are fast and do not need a server.

    What this layer does

    • Gives the same result every time
    • Stays fast, even with big files
    • Talks to printers, scanners and USB devices

    We use

    • Rust
    • C#
    • TypeScript
    • Swift
    • C++
  3. 03

    The vault

    Local data & sync

Where the app keeps its data, on the computer and in the cloud, so work continues offline and everything syncs when the internet is back.

    What this layer does

    • Keeps data safe and encrypted
    • Keeps working with no internet
    • Syncs and merges changes when online

    We use

    • SQLite
    • Encrypted storage
    • OS keychain
    • Cloud sync
  4. 04

    The delivery

    Install & update

How the software reaches your customers and stays current: the installer, the signature that proves it is yours, and updates that arrive on their own.

    What this layer does

    • Installs in one click
    • Signed, so Windows and Mac trust it
    • Updates quietly, with a way back

    We use

    • MSI / MSIX
    • DMG
    • Code signing
    • Auto-update

The full toolbox

Every language and tool, explained.

49 technologies in 6 groups, in plain words: what each one is, what we use it for, and where it has limits. Tags show which are rising right now.

  • Trendinggaining momentum now
  • Industry standardthe safe default
  • Steadyproven, not changing fast
  • Worth watchingpromising, not yet mainstream

Languages

The language decides how fast the app is, how easy it is to maintain, and which systems it can run on.

Nothing in this group is trending right now. Switch the filter off to see everything.

  • TypeScript

    Trending

JavaScript with types, so many mistakes are caught while we write. It powers most of our interface and logic.

    Trade-off
A little more typing up front, far fewer bugs later.
  • Rust

    Trending

A very fast language that prevents a whole class of memory bugs. It is the engine inside Tauri.

    Use it for
Fast, safe cores and device access
    Trade-off
Slower and costlier to build with, worth it where speed or safety matters.

Desktop frameworks

A desktop framework is the base the app is built on. The choice sets the size, speed, look and cost of everything after it.

Nothing in this group is trending right now. Switch the filter off to see everything.

About the tags: they are our judgement from public developer surveys, such asState of JS 2025and theStack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, plus what we see in real projects. They shift every year, and a tool that is not trending can still be exactly the right one.

Built in, not bolted on

Every app gets these.

Whatever the technology, these six things are part of every software project, and we show you how each one is checked.

  • Fast and light

The app opens quickly, stays responsive and does not hog the computer.

    How we check

We measure start-up time, memory and CPU use on an ordinary office computer, not just on a developer machine.

  • Safe by design

Your data and your customers' data stay protected, on the computer and on the way to the cloud.

    How we check

Encrypted local data, secrets in the system vault, least-privilege access, signed installers and no admin rights needed to run.

  • Works offline

Work does not stop when the internet does, and nothing is lost when it comes back.

    How we check

We test with the network switched off, then check that changes merge correctly when it returns.

  • Updates itself

Every customer gets fixes and new features without you sending files around.

    How we check

Signed auto-updates with a staged roll-out and a one-step way back if a release misbehaves.

  • Feels native

It follows Windows and Mac habits, so people do not have to learn anything new.

    How we check

We test on Windows 11 and on current Macs, with dark mode, sharp high-resolution screens, shortcuts and screen readers.

  • Yours to keep

No lock-in. You own what you paid for.

    How we check

After final payment you own the source code, designs, certificates and accounts. We hand over clean, documented code and a short guide.

How we work

No mystery. Just a clear path from idea to launch.

Five steps, the same every time. You always know what's happening, what's next, and when it's done.

Software FAQ

Software questions, answered.

Still curious? Write to hello@shroytech.com and a real person replies within 24 hours.

Can one app run on both Windows and Mac?

Yes. Most of our desktop software uses Tauri or Electron, so one codebase gives you a Windows version and a Mac version. When an app must feel perfectly native on one system, such as a Mac creative tool, we build natively instead and tell you why.

Tauri or Electron: which will you use?

We usually start with Tauri because installers are small and apps start quickly. We choose Electron when the app needs identical behaviour everywhere or relies on the largest ecosystem. You get the reasons in writing before we begin.

Will it work without internet?

Yes, if it needs to. We store data on the computer, so the app keeps working offline, then syncs and merges changes when the connection returns.

How do updates reach my customers?

The app checks for a new version and installs it automatically. Updates are signed, so they cannot be faked, and we keep a way back in case a release has a problem.

What about code signing and the security warnings?

Windows and Mac warn people about software that is not signed. We set up code signing (and, on Mac, Apple's notarization) for you. The certificates and developer accounts are in your name, and they carry yearly fees that we put in your quote.

Can it print receipts, scan barcodes or talk to devices?

Yes. This is one of the biggest reasons to choose desktop software. We work with receipt and label printers, barcode scanners, scales, and devices that connect by USB, serial or Bluetooth.

Should I choose a desktop app or a web app?

Choose a web app when people use many different devices and need no special hardware. Choose desktop software when you need speed, offline work, printers and scanners, or big local files. Many projects use both, and we will help you decide.

Can you turn our web app or website into a desktop app?

Often, yes, and quickly. We wrap your existing web interface in Tauri or Electron and then add the desktop extras: offline mode, notifications, shortcuts and file access.
